Everyone probably has someone in their family or circle of friends who has suffered the ravages of Alzheimer’s Disease. The disease affects not only the patient but their entire family. It robs the mind and can result in a huge loss in financial net worth. There is a film called Still Alice starring Julianne Moore, for which she received an Academy Award for Best Actress, that shows one woman’s struggle with the disease. You can rent the movie or stream it from one of the streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, etc.). I have attached the trailer in the link below for your review.

For Philadelphia sports fans, there is also a retired local sportswriter named Bill Lyons who is suffering with Alzheimer’s and he wrote a series of articles about how he and his family are dealing with his condition. You can find the columns through a Google search or on www.philly.com.
As with many horrible diseases, funding and research are seen as the key to stopping the ravages of Alzheimer’s. With so many people living longer the incidence of the disease is on the rise which is causing a lot of additional strain on the long-term care systems that are in place to deal with it.
