In many of the families that we work with, the mother (or wife), is the person who takes care of the finances and makes investment decisions. These women, as well the single or widowed women we work with, handle significant responsibilities. These responsibilities include caring for children, grandchildren, elderly parents and in some cases sick or disabled spouses in addition to working full-time. At some point it becomes necessary to delegate certain responsibilities to others and financial planning is often one of those responsibilities. Understanding and making informed decisions around constantly changing tax laws and health insurance regulations is difficult for the average person. In addition, preparing and implementing a comprehensive financial plan that could address budgeting, retirement, estate, insurance, college planning is even more involved.
Many people believe that financial planning encompasses, or starts with, the selection of investments with their 401k or 403b. They really do not understand what financial planners do until they come into a life experience where their services are usually needed like the death of a spouse or family member, the onset of terminal condition or dementia, planning for a child to go on to college, marriage, or the birth of a child.
Given that many women feel like they do not have a lot of help in making difficult financial decisions, we serve as a coach. We have a lot of experience in virtually all of the live events that one can experience and our primary goal is to help you no matter what the issue is.
